Allen & Heath ZED-10FX: Pro Sound in a Small Mixer
Allen & Heath’s ZED series brings the company’s professional console heritage to compact mixers. The ZED-10FX’s preamps are clean and quiet with plenty of gain for dynamic and condenser microphones, and the musical EQ makes it easy to get vocals and instruments sounding great quickly.
Two channels feature Class A FET high-impedance inputs, so you can plug guitar or bass straight in without a DI box and get a warm, natural tone. That makes the ZED-10FX a great choice for singer-songwriters and small acoustic acts.
ZED-10FX Effects and USB
The built-in effects processor adds reverbs and delays to vocals and instruments, with a tap-tempo button to sync delays to the music. The USB interface sends a stereo mix to your computer for recording or streaming, and returns playback from the computer to the mixer, perfect for podcasts, livestreams, and backing tracks.
Setting Up the ZED-10FX
Plug microphones into the XLR inputs and set gain so the loudest moments light the meters without clipping. Use the hi-Z inputs for guitar or bass, and stereo inputs for keyboards or a phone. Add effects using the FX send on each channel, choose a preset, and adjust the return level. For streaming, connect the USB port to your computer and select the mixer as your audio device.
What to Pair With the ZED-10FX
For small gigs, pair the ZED-10FX with a pair of powered speakers and a couple of vocal microphones on boom stands. For home recording and podcasting, add a condenser or dynamic broadcast microphone, closed-back headphones, and a mic arm. A rackmount kit is available if you want to install the mixer in a rack.
Allen & Heath ZED-10FX FAQ
Can I plug a guitar directly into the ZED-10FX? Yes. Two channels feature Class A FET high-impedance inputs designed for guitar and bass.
