Yamaha DM3S: Big-Console Features, Tiny Footprint
Yamaha has built acclaimed mixing consoles since the 1970s, and the DM3S brings that heritage to an ultra-compact format. Its 96 kHz audio path sounds clear and detailed, and its built-in effects draw on Yamaha’s long history with classic processors. Despite its small size, it handles everything from band gigs to church services and live streams.
Easy, Intuitive Operation
The 9-inch touchscreen and single touch-and-turn knob make navigation fast and approachable, so you can focus on the mix rather than menus. Six mono or three stereo mixes, two matrices, and a stereo bus provide flexible routing for monitors, zones, and broadcast feeds.
Setting Up the DM3S
Connect microphones and instruments to the 16 preamps and the main and mix outputs to your PA and monitors. Use the touchscreen to set gain, EQ, and dynamics, and assign mixes for monitor wedges or in-ears. For streaming or recording, connect the 18×18 USB interface to a computer, or insert a USB drive for direct 2×2 recording of the main mix.
What to Pair With the DM3S
Pair the DM3S with the RK-DM3 rack mount kit, powered speakers and monitors, a laptop for multitrack recording, and a stage box for longer cable runs. Yamaha’s DM3 Editor and StageMix apps add remote control options.
Recording and Streaming
The DM3S’s 18×18 USB interface sends individual channels to a DAW for multitrack recording or virtual soundcheck, while 2×2 USB drive recording captures the main mix with no computer at all. DAW remote mode lets the console’s faders and buttons control volume and transport in your DAW, making it a strong hub for hybrid live and studio work.
Custom Control for Installs
For installed systems, the DM3S supports custom control via OSC, USB-MIDI, and Yamaha’s ProVisionaire applications, allowing simplified control panels for non-technical users in churches, schools, and corporate spaces.
Yamaha DM3S FAQ
How many mic inputs does it have? Sixteen mic preamps.
