Shure PGA58: Reliable Vocals, Great Value

The PGA58 brings Shure’s dependable vocal microphone design to an accessible price. Its capsule is voiced for singing, delivering clear, present vocals in a live mix, and the cardioid pattern focuses on the singer while rejecting sound from behind the mic. A rugged build handles nightly use on stage.

Stage-Ready Features

An on/off switch lets singers mute between songs or sets without reaching the mixer. The black metallic finish and grille look clean on stage and on camera, and the included cable and clip mean you can plug in and perform right out of the box.

Setting Up the PGA58

Attach the swivel clip to a mic stand and connect the included XLR cable to your mixer or powered speaker; no phantom power is needed. Sing a few inches from the grille for a full sound, and aim the back of the mic toward stage monitors to minimize feedback.

What to Pair With the PGA58

Pair the PGA58 with a boom or straight mic stand, a powered speaker or mixer, and a windscreen for outdoor use. Buy several for a matched set across a band or worship team.

Why Dynamic Mics for Live Vocals?

Dynamic microphones are the standard for live vocals because they’re rugged, require no phantom power, and are less sensitive to distant sounds, which helps control feedback on loud stages. The PGA58 delivers those benefits with a vocal-tailored response.

PGA58 vs. Beta 58A

Both are dynamic vocal mics built for the stage. The PGA58 offers great value with a cardioid pattern and on/off switch. The Beta 58A steps up to a supercardioid pattern for even more feedback rejection, a neodymium magnet for higher output, and an advanced shock mount, making it a favorite for professional touring and loud stages.

Mic Technique Tips

For the fullest sound, sing with your lips a few inches from the grille and keep that distance consistent. Moving closer adds warmth and bass thanks to proximity effect, while pulling back slightly on loud notes keeps the level even. Avoid cupping the grille with your hand, which changes the pickup pattern and makes feedback more likely.
