JBL PRX818XLFW: Wireless Control of Serious Bass

The PRX818XLFW brings deep, controlled bass to mid-size systems, and its built-in Wi-Fi lets you adjust it from anywhere in the venue. Open the PRX Connect app on a phone or tablet to set levels, shape the sound with 8-band parametric EQ, store presets, and add up to 50 ms of delay to time-align the subs with your tops. No more walking back to the stage to make adjustments.

Built for the Road

JBL’s Differential Drive woofer delivers high output in a lighter package, and the 18 mm plywood cabinet with DuraFlex finish and dent-resistant 16-gauge grille stands up to years of touring. Every PRX speaker goes through JBL’s 100-hour power test, and an intelligent variable-speed fan runs only when needed to keep noise down.

Setting Up the PRX818XLFW

Place the subwoofer on the floor near the front of the stage. Connect your mixer to its XLR or 1/4-inch input, and use the XLR loop-through to send signal to your full-range speakers or additional subs. Connect to the subwoofer with PRX Connect, apply the crossover and tuning settings that match your tops, and set delay and level for a smooth blend across the room.

What to Pair With the PRX818XLFW

Pair the PRX818XLFW with JBL PRX812W or PRX815W full-range speakers, a speaker pole, a padded subwoofer cover, and quality XLR cables. Two subs and two tops create a powerful stereo system for venues and production companies.

Why Time-Align Subs and Tops?

When subwoofers and full-range speakers are at different distances from the audience, their sound arrives at slightly different times, which can cause a thin or hollow sound around the crossover. The PRX818XLFW’s up to 50 ms of user-defined delay lets you align the sub with your tops, so bass and mids arrive together for a tighter, punchier system.

Covering Larger Audiences

JBL rates the PRX818XLFW for audiences of up to 300. For larger rooms or bass-heavy music, add more subwoofers: each doubling of subs adds output and helps coverage. Placing subs together in the center or across the stage front also improves low-frequency coupling and makes the most of the added power.

JBL PRX818XLFW FAQ

Do I need JBL PRX tops? No. The PRX818XLFW works with any full-range speaker, but it’s designed to match the PRX800 line.
