Electro-Voice ETX-18SP: Serious Low End

When you need bass that you can feel across a dance floor or a concert audience, an 18-inch subwoofer is the tool for the job. The ETX-18SP combines a high-output DVX woofer with a powerful 1800 W amplifier and EV’s FIR-Drive DSP, which optimizes the response for tight, accurate bass rather than boomy, uncontrolled low end. Protection limiters keep the system safe when pushed hard.

The rugged birch plywood enclosure with EVCoat finish is built to withstand the rigors of touring and rental use.

ETX-18SP DSP and Cardioid Presets

The onboard DSP lets you choose the low-pass crossover point to match your main speakers and select presets for different applications. Cardioid presets allow multiple ETX-18SP subwoofers to be arranged so bass is directed toward the audience and reduced behind the subs, which keeps stages quieter and reduces bass buildup on the performers.

Setting Up the ETX-18SP

Place subwoofers on the floor at the front of the stage, ideally in a center cluster or stacked on each side. Feed your mixer outputs into the sub, then send the sub’s outputs to your full-range speakers, setting the low-pass filter to blend with the tops. For larger events, use multiple subs in a cardioid arrangement to control bass on stage.

What to Pair With the ETX-18SP

Pair the ETX-18SP with Electro-Voice ETX full-range speakers such as the ETX-12P or ETX-15P for a matched system. A padded ETX-18SP cover protects the finish in transport, and a speaker pole lets you mount a top speaker above the sub. Quality XLR cables complete the setup.

How Many Subwoofers Do You Need?

For speech and acoustic music, one ETX-18SP per side, or a single center sub, is often plenty. For DJs and dance events, a common starting point is one 18-inch subwoofer for each full-range speaker. Larger rooms and outdoor events benefit from multiple subs, which can be arranged in cardioid configurations to keep bass off the stage. Our team can help you estimate the right number for your venue and audience size.
