Shure NXN6/3PK Tom and Snare Microphones: Why a 3-Pack
A standard drum kit needs a microphone on the snare and one on each rack and floor tom, which is exactly what the NXN6/3PK covers. Buying the three-pack means all three drum mics match, so your toms and snare share the same tonal character from channel to channel, and each one arrives with its own A6D mount and zipper pouch.
The Nexadyne 6 delivers a clear high-frequency response, an extremely flat midrange, and full low end, so every hit cuts through naturally and authentically without heavy EQ. The supercardioid pattern is optimized for off-axis rejection, helping isolate each drum from cymbal wash and neighboring toms.
Nexadyne 6 Design and Build
The compact dynamic cartridge is small enough to sit close to the drum without crowding the player, and the custom A6D drum mount secures it quickly in a stable position on the rim. At roughly half a pound per microphone, it adds little weight to the hardware, and the discreet black finish keeps the kit looking clean on stage.
The die-cast zinc housing is built to handle the wear of regular setup and teardown, and the male XLR output connects directly to any mixer, snake, or audio interface.
NXN6 Placement and Setup Tips
Tom and snare microphones are typically clipped to the rim and aimed toward the center of the head, a couple of inches above the surface. Aiming a little closer to the rim brings out more attack and stick definition, while aiming toward the center of the head gives more body and tone. The custom A6D mount lets you set that position quickly and keeps it stable through a full set.
Because the NXN6 is a supercardioid microphone, point the back of the capsule toward the nearest cymbal or the next drum to take advantage of its off-axis rejection. Take a moment to check polarity against the kick and overhead channels at soundcheck, and you will usually get a tighter, more focused kit with less EQ.
