Allen & Heath Qu-SB: Big-Mixer Power in a Small Box

The Qu-SB has no faders or front-panel controls, which keeps it small enough to sit on stage, on a shelf, or in a rack. Instead, you mix from an iPad with the Qu-Pad app, which gives fast access to channel processing, meters, RTA, FX, scenes, and setup. Mix monitors from the stage, walk the room to tune the PA, and run the show from the best seat in the house.

The 16 AnalogiQ preamps are fully recallable, with 1 dB gain steps and zero-crossing detection for transparent, low-noise sound.

Processing, Effects, and Recording

Every input has trim, polarity, HPF, gate, insert/ducker, 4-band PEQ, compressor, and delay; every mix output has a 1/3-octave GEQ, 4-band PEQ, compressor, and delay. Four stereo iLive FX engines provide classic reverbs, delays, and modulation. Qu-Drive records up to 18 channels at 24-bit/48 kHz straight to a USB drive for virtual soundchecks, and the 32×32 USB interface connects to your DAW.

Setting Up the Qu-SB

Place the Qu-SB on stage or in a rack, connect microphones and instruments to the inputs, and connect the main and monitor outputs to your PA and wedges or in-ears. Connect a Wi-Fi router to the network port, join it with your iPad, and open Qu-Pad. Musicians can control their own monitor mixes with Qu-You on their phones.

What to Pair With the Qu-SB

Pair the Qu-SB with an iPad, a dedicated Wi-Fi router, the optional rack ear kit, and an Allen & Heath AudioRack over dSNAKE for more inputs. A ME personal mixing system gives musicians hands-on control of their monitor mixes.

Automatic Mic Mixer for Speech

When several microphones are open at the same time, as in conferences, panels, and worship services, background noise and feedback risk add up. The Qu-SB’s Automatic Mic Mixer manages the levels of up to 16 mics using a gain-sharing algorithm, so whoever is speaking is heard clearly while the other mics are turned down. Priority settings let you give key speakers more weight.
