RapcoHorizon RM1-25: Reliable Everyday Mic Cable

Every microphone needs a good cable, and the RM1 series is designed to be the dependable workhorse in your cable bin. The balanced XLR design and copper serve shield keep hum and interference out of your signal, even on long runs alongside power cables and lighting. At 25 feet, the RM1-25 is the most common length for connecting vocal and instrument microphones on stage to a snake or mixer.

RM1-25 Construction

Inside, two 24 AWG bare copper conductors carry the balanced signal, surrounded by a 95% coverage copper serve shield. A serve shield is flexible and easy to coil, making the cable comfortable to handle and quick to wrap after a gig. The matte PVC jacket resists kinking and stays manageable on cold stages, with a slim 0.230-inch outer diameter.

Cable Care Tips

To make your cables last, coil them using the over-under method, which prevents twisting and kinking. Avoid pulling cables by the jacket to disconnect them; grip the connector instead. Keep cables away from foot traffic or tape them down with gaffer tape, and store them loosely coiled rather than tightly wrapped. Label cables by length so your team can grab the right one quickly.

RapcoHorizon RM1-25 FAQ

Will the RM1-25 carry phantom power? Yes. It’s a standard balanced XLR microphone cable, so it carries phantom power to condenser microphones and DI boxes.

Can I use it for line-level signals? Yes. Any balanced XLR signal, including line-level outputs from mixers and DI boxes, can run on the RM1-25.

How Many Mic Cables Do You Need?

A good rule of thumb is one cable for every microphone and DI box on stage, plus a few spares. A typical small band setup might use eight to twelve microphone cables between vocals, drums, and amplifiers. Twenty-five feet is the most versatile length for running from the stage to a snake or mixer, while shorter 10- or 15-foot cables are handy for drum mics and DI boxes close to a stage box. Keeping spares on hand means a single failed cable never stops the show.
