Shure MV88+ Video Kit: Pro Audio for Mobile Video

Built-in phone microphones capture everything around you, often with thin, distant sound. The MV88+ replaces them with a true condenser capsule that you can point at your subject and tailor to the scene. Use mono cardioid for an interview or vlog, wide stereo for a live music performance, or mid-side to keep full control over the stereo image in post.

The kit includes everything needed to mount the mic and phone together. The Manfrotto PIXI tripod doubles as a handle for walk-and-talk shooting, and the phone clamp and shoe-mount clip let you position the microphone exactly where it sounds best.

MV88+ Recording Modes and the ShurePlus MOTIV App

Paired with the ShurePlus MOTIV audio and video apps, the MV88+ gives you control over pickup pattern, stereo width, gain, EQ, compression, and limiting, along with presets for common recording situations. The headphone output lets you monitor audio in real time while you film, so you know your sound is right before the moment is over.

MV88+ Setup Tips

For speech, aim the microphone at the talker and choose mono cardioid to reduce background noise. For music or ambience, switch to stereo and adjust the width to match the space. Keep the mic out of direct wind, and record a short test clip before every shoot to check levels with headphones.

Using the MV88+ With a Camera or Computer

The MV88+ isn’t limited to phones. Use the included shoe-mount clip to put it on a mirrorless camera or rig, or connect it to a Mac or PC over USB to use it as a high-quality stereo microphone for voice-overs, livestreams, and recording music practice. Because the microphone does its own analog-to-digital conversion, you get the same clean 24-bit/48 kHz sound no matter what device you plug into.

For long shoots, plan for power and storage: record a short test first, keep your device charged, and make sure there’s enough free space for high-resolution video and audio. A pair of headphones on the MV88+’s headphone output is the best way to catch wind, handling noise, or distortion before it ruins a take.
