Product Details

The Shure NXN2 Nexadyne 2 is a supercardioid dynamic microphone built to capture the full frequency range of kick drum and other low-frequency instruments. Shure’s patented Revonic™ dual-engine transducer technology pairs two precisely calibrated transducers that work together to deliver vivid clarity and detail.

Highlights

  • Revonic™ dual-engine transducer technology with two matched transducers
  • Supercardioid polar pattern for strong off-axis rejection and reduced stage bleed
  • Wide 20 Hz to 16 kHz frequency response to capture both low-end thump and beater attack
  • Designed for kick drum and other low-frequency instruments
  • Male XLR connector

Revonic™ Technology
Two transducers that are mechanically identical and electrically out of phase work together to cancel unwanted vibrations, improving clarity and reducing handling and stand noise.

Shure NXN2 Kick Drum Microphone: What Makes It Different

A kick drum needs a microphone that can handle enormous low-frequency energy while still capturing the click and attack of the beater. The Shure NXN2 is tuned for exactly that: deep, authoritative low end paired with high-frequency attack definition, across a 20 Hz to 16 kHz response.

The contoured EQ is built into the microphone’s design, which means less corrective work at front of house. Instead of carving out the same frequencies on every kick channel, you start closer to a finished sound and spend your time on the mix.

NXN2 Supercardioid Pattern and Isolation

The consistent supercardioid pickup pattern is tuned for strong off-axis rejection of floor vibration, tom bleed, and hi-hat spill. On a crowded stage, that isolation is what keeps the kick channel tight and the rest of the kit out of it.

The Revonic™ dual-engine design pairs two matched transducers that are mechanically identical but electrically out of phase, which cancels unwanted vibration before it reaches your signal. A separated swivel joint and XLR output help prevent cable strain during setup and teardown, and the compact, discreet black finish disappears inside the drum.

NXN2 Placement and Setup Tips

Most engineers place a kick drum microphone inside the drum, a few inches from the beater head, and then move it toward or away from the beater to trade attack for low-end weight. Closer to the beater gives a punchier, clickier sound; pulling it back toward the center of the shell gives a rounder, fuller tone. Because the NXN2 has a separated swivel joint and XLR output, it is easy to aim and re-aim without straining the cable.

Whichever position you choose, check polarity against your overhead and snare microphones. A quick polarity flip on the kick channel often tightens the whole kit. Starting from the NXN2’s built-in contoured response, you will usually need less EQ than with a flat-response microphone, which saves channel processing and time at soundcheck.
